Understanding the fare
The sample fare for this itinerary is ¥264,000 (medium bus, 12 people, 16 hours).
This amount includes the medium bus, the driver, fuel and vehicle insurance.
Expressway tolls to the Takayama area, parking fees at stops such as Shirakawa-go, and driver accommodation are charged separately at actual cost. Looking for driver accommodation within about 10 minutes or 5 km one way of your own accommodation helps keep the cost down.
On weekends, public holidays and in peak seasons, expect about 20% higher than on weekdays as a guideline. Fares are based on the driver's working hours and the distance driven, so even a 30-minute change in times may change the fare.
Choosing the bus
A medium bus seats 27–33, the right size for this itinerary with 12 people.
The luggage compartment holds about 20 suitcases (a guideline).
If you have a lot of luggage or want more room in the seats, you can also choose a large bus. The fare is higher accordingly.
With a slightly smaller group, you could also choose a small bus (21–25 seats) to keep the fare down. Some small buses have no luggage compartment, so please let us know how much luggage you have.
FAQ
- Do we need to arrange the driver's accommodation?
- Driver accommodation is charged separately from the bus fare, and we ask you to provide a private room with bedding. The cost rises if it is far from your accommodation, so as a guideline, keep it within 10 minutes or 5 km one way.
- Are there English-speaking drivers?
- In some areas, drivers who can handle English are available. Please ask when you book.
- Does the fare change if our group grows or shrinks from 12 people?
- As long as you stay within the seating capacity of the medium bus, the fare is the same even if the number of people changes. If you exceed the capacity, the bus type changes, and so does the fare.
